Coyote Volleyball Prepares to Hit the Court This Spring

The Cerro Coso Volleyball team has announced the spring 2021 schedule, which kicks off in just a few weeks. Building the schedule has been done in cooperation with competing CCCAA schools that have chosen to "opt-in" for the spring season. In compliance with the CCCAA opt-in guidelines, the team will follow campus COVID-19 protocol, maintain testing compliance, and not allow in game attendance for the spring 2021 season. Coyote home games will be streamed online and information to catch the broadcast will be released for each game. The Coyote volleyball team is anxious to hit the court under the released modified schedule, and Coach Kim Young has put in the work to build a quality Coyote Volleyball team for this season. " The players realize the situation with a modified season and are excited that we actually get to play, and we are all very thankful for that.  I think this opportunity will help us be better prepared for next season"

A lot of preparation has gone into providing the opportunity for competition within COVID guidelines. In part the program has needed to take a look into the modifications of stepping out the pacing of conditioning and skill development, but when it comes down to preparation, Coach Young says it business as usual. "Not much has changed to our plan in coaching or managing our season.  We are continuing as usual with our in-season approach of making changes and getting better every day, which includes a maintenance phase in the weight room 2-3 days per week".

"We will be facing some top level state teams this year, so our goal is to go out and play hard and win as many games as we can to prepare for our 2021 Fall season.  We want to allow all our players time to play to better prepare for next season when playing for a championship.  We always play to win, but learning will be a valuable tool this year since we will face some tougher teams." Even though the 2021 season will not include a playoff system, the Coyotes have high expectations for the volleyball program as they continue to build upon past success. Coach Young added, "We're excited and it's going to be fun…no one wants to practice all year and never get to play real games." This will be a great chance to evaluate and improve as well as give our players the development needed to pursue four year school opportunities next fall.
